Boxer - Medium - Adult - Female - Dog - Mia
Description
CBR is a volunteer run, 501(c)3 non-profit organization serving North and South Carolina. Our Boxers come to us from shelters, humane societies and directly from owners. They enter into volunteer foster homes throughout both states and live indoors with the foster family and other pets. Each Boxer receives a complete physical, immunizations, sterilization, heartworm test and treatment for any illnesses or diseases. We evaluate temperament to ensure that each Boxer we rescue will make a good family pet. These evaluations are achieved through living with the dog and watching him/her interact with children, adults and other pets. All of our Boxers are tested for aggression issues and any other behavior problems. Each dog learns basic house manners and is crate and house trained. We do not accept nor place dogs with known human aggression issues.November 23, 2008... Mia has had her first round of heartworm treatment and is doing well. She goes for her second treatment this week! August 7, 2008... The vet reports the following: 1. the chest mass was Mammary Carcinoma (cancer)- good margins were taken around all the tumor; and 2. on her head, it was a Mast Cell Tumor (MCT) Grade 2, good margins also gotten on that one. As soon as she heals, she'll be ready to start heartworm treatment.July 25, 2008... Surgery wise everything went okay. Spay was normal. The MCT on the head came off easily, yet it will leave a strange scar (ear to ear). He thinks he got good margins. For her mammary tumor, they took a lot of tissue and think they got good margins. However it is a large mass, and to stitch it up it was very tight. They are worried about it opening. She may stay the night. The tumors will go to the lab and in a week we’ll have a prognosis. For now its rest and recovery for Mia.July 18, 2008... Mia is about to undergo her first surgery to remove the malignant tumors. Check back for updates on how she's doing.June 21, 2008...Mia desperately needs medical help ASAP. Here are the vet's findings so far: * Mast Cell Tumor on head, they think its going to be easy to remove and get good margins. * Mammary tumor is malignant and very dangerous. Needs to come off ASAP. *THIS TUMOR IS A DIRECT RESULT OF NOT SPAYING A FEMALE DOG.* * Heartworms have caused some heart damage, heart murmur and arrythmia. Needs full heart workup after tumors removed. * Two tumor removals and spay will happen ASAP. It is dangerous to put her under anesthesia. However this is the best choice for her at present. The estimate for all of this medical work is well over a $1000.00 and is not optional. Can you help Mia survive?May 15, 2008... Poor Mia has arrhythmia and a heart murmur... also the lump on her chest that is malignant. The vet also needs to check out the lump on her head. She'll need to have the lumps removed as well as a complete work up with an echo, xrays and labs. Mia drinks more than she eats, and the vet wants to make sure that she doesnt have diabetes or anything underlying.April 17, 2008... Hello, I am Mia! I love to go on long walks. I love my crate more and more each day, especially when the door gets left open and I can go lay down in there on my own. I got a bath today because I was rolling in the dirt. I went outside white and shiny and came in as a fawn! I love my foster family, and I do not pay attention to any of the cats. I love the kids and my foster fur brother! I am an all around good girl. I don't even get up on the furniture. The sad thing is I am heartworm positive, but I'm up to date on all my shots thank goodness. Can't wait to get to my forever home!!Mia would like to thank her sponsors:Terry NewsomJane Witherspoon- In honor of Zonk... my heartsongKathy and KlondykeSusan Weiner and JoshuaGregory PeakeMarne Kane Tugwell and Chief & Bella (CBR dogs!)Pat & Dave ManzelTina PaceGreg & Anne-Marie Jehn- With love from Samson and Manda!Steve & Vivian Newman- Lewisville, NCWilliam Hines- In memory of Bailey and LillyGreg & Vicki Hardee- In memory of our beloved BootsAnyone interested in a CBR dog should read our Views and Policies and, if in agreement, fill out and submit an application. During the processing phase, all references will be checked including vet and landlord (if renting). As long as there are no negative references and the application does not contain any information contradictory to our policy, a homevisit will then be scheduled. After the homevisit, the applicant is either approved to adopt, approved with contingencies or denied. At this point, we begin the process of matching your family with one of our boxers. Our standard adoption fee is $250.00. Mixes may be less and puppies may be more.
