Boxer - Medium - Adult - Male - Dog - Pete
Description
CBR is a volunteer run, 501(c)3 non-profit organization serving North and South Carolina. Our Boxers come to us from shelters, humane societies and directly from owners. They enter into volunteer foster homes throughout both states and live indoors with the foster family and other pets. Each Boxer receives a complete physical, immunizations, sterilization, heartworm test and treatment for any illnesses or diseases. We evaluate temperament to ensure that each Boxer we rescue will make a good family pet. These evaluations are achieved through living with the dog and watching him/her interact with children, adults and other pets. All of our Boxers are tested for aggression issues and any other behavior problems. Each dog learns basic house manners and is crate and house trained. We do not accept nor place dogs with known human aggression issues.November 12, 2008... Pete is a big but very gentle dog. He has one of the most easy going tempermants I have ever seen in a dog. Although he doesn't hear very well he will suprise you from time to time with what he can hear. Although he does have trouble hearing I don't have much trouble getting him to do anything using a few hand signals or talking loudly. He is pretty smart and very adaptable (he has already made himself at home). He is very affectionate (loves for you to pet him) and sometimes thinks he's a lap dog! Although he doesn't interact or play much with other dogs (especially hyper ones like his fur sister Sassy) he gets along with them very well. He loves to go for walks (although he is not overweight these walks may become important in the future as he doesn't run around the back yard very much) and is very good/obedient on a leash. He walks at a steady pace and (because of his hearing loss) doesn't become distracted or nervous by traffic, people, or other animals. He is very relaxed in the car and loves to go for rides. August 27, 2008 ... Pete is tolerant of cats and other dogs. All his surgical sites have healed well except the one on his RR hock, it looks better daily though. He has AT LEAST 12 lumps she wants to aspirate, we have an appt. next Tuesday. She made no other changes, but we are pretty sure he is mostly deaf. He reacts to hand signals some, but nothing when you talk to him. I can startle him so easily, it is almost sad. He is playful and will fetch (a boxer that fetchs?!). He is eager to please.August 2, 2008... Pete is great! He is house and crate trained. He loves to walk on leash and got along great with all the other fur babies at his foster home. We had a birthday party at my house Friday evening and he did great with everyone and did not beg for food! A neighbor's big male pit bull came over yesterday and they were fine. He LOVES kids (he slept with 3 kids on a pallet Friday night). He is very relaxed and just fit right in here. He eats great and does not seem the least bit food aggressive. His wounds are pretty awful looking where he had tumors and cysts removed, especially the ones on both hocks. He has masses everywhere!July 29, 2008... Pete is one of our new fellows. He immediately had to have quite a bit of medical care upon coming into rescue. He had some very bad teeth that needed to be pulled and a number of cysts and tumors. See the pictures below.Pete would like to thank his sponsors:Ellen BucherLinda CarrAnyone interested in a CBR dog should read our Views and Policies and, if in agreement, fill out and submit an application. During the processing phase, all references will be checked including vet and landlord (if renting). As long as there are no negative references and the application does not contain any information contradictory to our policy, a homevisit will then be scheduled. After the homevisit, the applicant is either approved to adopt, approved with contingencies or denied. At this point, we begin the process of matching your family with one of our boxers. Our standard adoption fee is $250.00. Mixes may be less and puppies may be more.
